I Don’t Take Ls…

Michael Passias, better known as Kasual, was born in Brooklyn, NY and knew from an early age that he would be drawn to create music.  Kasual was heavily influenced by 90′s hip-hop and by artists such as The Notorious B.I.G. (hence the portrait on his arm).  Kasual’s inauguration to the industry began in 2006 when he was signed to an independent record label, Cet It Off Records, and began to embellish upon his music career as both a writer and as a performer.  Shortly thereafter, Kasual was soon recording songs and or performing with industry A-listers such as Akon, 50 Cent, E-40, Fabolous, Soulja Boy, Mistah Fab, Maino, Sean Kingston, Ray J, The Runners, Kat Deluna, J.R. Rotem and Cool and Dre, among others.

By 2008, Kasual’s talent was noticed by DJ Khaled and his We The Best Music Group label.  Shortly after Kasual went on a world-wide tour with Akon and Flo-rida and went onto perform as the opening act for artists such as Sean Kingston, Ray J and Pretty Ricky.  In 2009, Kasual released a single entitled “Sitting On Top Of The World” featuring DJ Khaled and Rick Ross which hit major hip-hop webzines and blog sites such as XXLmag.com and NahRight.com.  He followed up this with his second single “Pleasure and Pain” featuring Pleasure P, which amassed nearly 20,000 downloads the first week.

In 2010, Kasual along with his partner Joshua Cherry (Swagga Bob) were offered a writing deal with Twin Gems/BMI and multi-platinum song writer Jared Cotter.  Cotter has received high accolades for writing “Down” and “Do You Remember” by Jay Sean, where they were charted as the number one and three singles, respectively, on the Billboard Top 100.  As a writer, Kasual has penned songs for industry big names such as Jordin Sparks, Trey Songz and Big Time Rush.  In June of 2011, Kasual leaked a Jon Bellion produced single, titled “Dont Take L’s” , which was featured on DJBooth.net to much acclaim.  By Nobember of 2011, Kas released a follow up tribute single, appropriately titled “Floyd Mayweather” (#TheMoneyTeam) , which premiered on the discerning urban culture x boxing lifestyle website, TheWellVersed.com.  The video for “Floyd Mayweather”, directed by Michael Chow premiered shortly thereafter on the music video aggregating giant World Star Hip Hop.  Most recently, Kasual released the visuals for his araabMUZIK produced song “Brilliant”, which takes you on a cinematic journey through the ups and downs of Kasual’s career; from label advances, touring with Rick Ross and living the rap life, to seeing it all vanish before his very eyes as he wanders the streets of New York as a vagrant, haunted by reminders of his ill-fated success.  Directed again by Taranchino, “Brilliant” was met with a very successful online marketing campaign, landing on tastemaker webzines such as 2dopeboyz and OnSMASH.

2012 was a quiet year for Kasual as far as releases are concerned, however, his pen game took no days off as he wrote tracks for the likes of Fabolous, Slim (of 112) and Tynisha Kelli, among others, while also working alongside Roc Nation affiliate producer Deputy (Wale, Ne-Yo, J Cole, Ludacris, Sean Garrett and many others). During Kasual’s tenure with the now defunct Cet It Off Records (RIP Sebastian Tauz) as their flagship artist, Kasual recorded an album’s worth of material with the renown producer/composer J.R. Rotem. Although the material was never released to the masses, the Beluga Heights co-founder gave Kasual the green light to let the world in on their closed sessions, and so the appropriately titled Best To Never Make It: The Kasual Kas Story, featuring Jazmine, Iyaz, Bekay, Swagga Bob and Mykel, finally saw the light of day on April 17th of 2013, where the project premiered on stupidDOPE.com. At current, Kasual remains as a professional songwriter. Stay tuned for more material from one of the industries best kept secrets.
