Biography of a Revolutionary…

Constant Flow, aptly named for his ability to run circles around most of today’s rappers, gets set to release his debut album, Ascension, on September 2nd, through Viper Records. The label, which is home to the Peruvian born, urban activist, Immortal Technique, is excited to work with the New Jersey native who has been a major force on the underground Hip-Hop scene from as far back as 1993. When asked about being the label’s latest signee, CF states: “I like Viper Records as a label because it is a grass roots organization. This isn’t a glamour and fame movement, it is about making people’s music not corporatized entertainment.”

After honing his talents on the local circuit at venues such as The Nuyorican Poet’s Café as well as Pyramid Club’s ‘End of the Weak’ open mic night, Constant Flow has since shared stages worldwide with the likes of Nas, Mobb Deep and Immortal Technique, where the Jersey City native has had the opportunity to showcase his skills to old and new heads alike. His background as a lyrical assassin through years of freestyling and battle rapping, forged with his songwriting savvy that he would later develop, have matured CF into a master lyricist capable of dropping rhymes with reckless abandon. “Eventually, as I matured, I began to slow down my thought process a bit and put the pen to paper and master the art of song writing,” states CF, who still considers battle rap to be a necessity in keeping the warrior tradition in Hip-Hop alive.

Ascension balances CF’s thought provoking lyrics over a dynamic beat selection, coupled with sparing, but well placed guest appearances from the likes of Immortal Technique, Akir, Swave Sevah, P.J. Pacifico, Wyseme, Kelly Finnegan (of Monophonics), Dontique and Melanie Fontana.

The album offers a peak into the inner workings of Constant Flow’s conscious as we get to experience a wide brush stroke of the rapper’s life experiences. From the frantic, Big L sampled “Winter’s Blood” to the piano driven, military inspired anthem “Dog Tags,” CF’s subject matter ranges from the social injustices that plague his very neighborhood, to global political issues found on opposite ends of the earth. As for being labeled as a “conscious” rapper, the New Jeru emcee doesn’t mind, in fact, he wears the title as a badge of honor; “If I were to be lumped into the same category of a Chuck D of Public Enemy or even a Bob Dylan, it would make me proud,” states CF.

The 13-track offering is a culmination of rousing ideas that aim to positively promote the culture that have been paved by the legends before him, while providing an honest reflection of the world we live in today. Pre-Orders for Ascension are now available through iTunes, with a release date set for September 2nd. The album will be available on CD through select brick and mortar stores and online sites, as well as digital download, through all major digital retailers.
